  • All 8840 FSTs were annotated anew using rice annotation release 5
  • 950 new FSTs were safely mapped to gene and integrated in SHIP
  • 1834 new homozygous insertion lines were obtained and implemented seed quality analysis, the results were integrated in SHIP
    Shanghai T-DNA Insertion Population

Shanghai T-DNA Insertion Population (SHIP) was established by Group Hongwei Xue (http://www.plantsignal.cn) at Shanghai Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology (SIPPE) starting from Feb, 2003. The main purpose of the studies is to provide a rich and solid platform for the rice functional genomics studies, and further crop functional genomics studies. The project is mainly supported by National High-Tech program (863).

Currently(release March 17,2008), a population 65,000 independent transgenic lines harbouring T-DNA insertion has been generated, in which 12,000 homozygous lines have been identified allowing the functional characterizations of recessive genes. 2,000-3,000 new homozygous lines will be identified every year in future.

By thermal asymmetric interlaced (TAIL)-PCR analysis, currently, more than 8,000 mutants are linked with the FSTs (flanking sequence tags) that can be located on the rice genome. All the FSTs are analyzed in the bioinformatics pipeline against the TIGR Rice Pseudomolecules (virtual contigs). 2,000-3,000 new FSTs will be isolated every year in future.

High-throughput quality assays through infrared measurement were experimentally setup. Amout of starch , amylose, fat, protein and gel consistence of the whole seeds were analyzed. Currently, about 8,000 lines have been analyzed, providing a good resource for the seed quality studies.
